How To Lose A Contest Before You Get To The Start Line

I am more of a lover than a fighter, but I have to say I was completely fascinated recently as I watched two athletes mentally prepare for the biggest fight of their lives. In terms of their mental approach, one athlete did just about everything you can possibly do to prepare badly, and the other athlete did everything you can possibly do – to do it the right way.

It might come as no surprise that the athlete who prepared the best way, won in convincing fashion but I thought I would highlight both approaches here because we can all learn something from each approach. I know this because when I started taking my ski racing very seriously, I had a mental approach that didn’t serve me also but because I wasn’t aware of what was going on, I didn’t even know I had unwittingly capped my performances and I was in effect - losing the contest before I ever got into the start gate!

And I suspect that is exactly the case here, with one of the athletes who lost the fight...

When I started my first business I thought that everyone thought the same way I did… and boy was I in for a business shock!!! I was in my early 30’s and had worked with and coached thousands of highly successful clients in the ski coaching space but now it was time to play a bigger game.

After reading Rich Dad Poor Dad and the Cashflow Quadrant I decided to move from employee to business owner / entrepreneur and investor.

But what would be my business vehicle?

I knew about ski coaching and I saw the huge profits ski school made plus I liked the idea or owning some year-round income producing ski real estate that could also enjoy capital growth as well.

So I decided to start my own ski improvement camp program business in Canada and Australia where the guests would eventually stay in our accommodation so the business would effectively earn income from coaching and pay for our property investments into ski real estate.
